Sock Features

Hover over the highlighted areas below to learn about the special features of this sock.

Welt Cuff
This sock features a welt-cuff. A welt-cuff is a double layer of knit fabric. This is an attractive and durable cuff that will not stretch out.
Leg
The leg of this sock is a crew length so it comes to the lower part or just below the calf. This sock features comfortable terry loop construction the entire leg.
Top of Foot (Instep)
The top of the foot is thinner to reduce overall bulk on your foot and for better comfort in warmer weather. There is a 2.5 inch band of terry loop in the middle that hugs your foot and provides comfort without adding warmth or bulk.
Heel
The heel is made of the same terry loop as the sole and the arch of the foot. The outside of the sock is reinforced for added durability.
Toe
This closure is stitched loop-for-loop on the knitting machine that produces a seamless closure on the inside and outside of the sock. This reduces blisters caused by bunched up sock material.
Bottom of Foot (Sole)
The sole is made with merino wool terry loop. This loop provides cushioning and has a very soft feel. This sole is medium cushioned.

Construction

This sock is constructed with a combination of merino wool and synthetic yarn. The merino terry loop is very soft on your feet which is why this is such a staff favorite. The terry loop construction on the inside is 100% merino wool yarn. This means that while the sock itself isn't 100% merino wool, the part that is touching your foot is all merino. The synthetic materials are used in higher concentration on the heel and toe to provide longer wear in these areas.

Sockspert Opinions

John's Thoughts

These are my go-to socks in the spring, summer, fall and winter. The Wigwam Merino Lite Hiker is very soft, inside and out. This might be the overall most comfortable sock I've ever had on my feet. I hate it when you feel a nice pair of socks in the store, only to realize that all of the softness gets wasted on the outside and you’re left with some “nylony” feeling on the inside. These socks are softer on the inside but still soft on the outside (so your shoes won't get jealous of your feet). Adding to the soft feel is the fluffier bottom of the sock. With added bulk at the bottom you get max comfort without the extra bulk.

I’ve given these socks as gifts many times and feel confident that they were well received. I continue to have past gift recipients asking me how they can get more of the socks. In fact my friend Mike decided to buy a few dozen pair of Wigwam socks for his family because he liked them so much.

The leg of the sock has a terry loop. This adds thickness to the leg. This makes it super comfortable and adds a little bit of warmth to your ankle during cooler weather.

FAQ

Q. How does the merino wool terry loop band in the middle of the foot effect the fit?
A. After wear testing these socks, I always thought these were super comfortable socks. I didn't even realize the top of the foot had a band of terry loop. I do not feel this effects the fit at all.
