I'm the guy who's always complaining about being cold during the winter (and in Wisconsin it seems like that's about 50% of the year). It wasn't an issue growing up when I'd spend hours sledding in the snow or skating on the ice. I remember wearing my dad's old heavy wool socks that itched like crazy, but did their job much better than the thin cotton or nylon socks that my mom used to buy for me and my brother. I'd sled or skate until my feet were numb. But as an adult, my wife and I lived in the tropics for a few years and it seems as though my feet never re-adjusted to the bitter Wisconsin winters. I spent several years with extra-cold feet, never considering that socks would ever make a difference in how warm I felt.
Last year, before Socksperts even launched, my boss (John), gave me my first pair of Wigwam Merino Light Hikers (one of his favorites). I'm not sure if he did it because I complained so much about the cold... but it didn't matter. It was the first time my feet felt warm at home, on the road, or in the office. It was one of those simple revelations that hadn't occurred to me before... that warmer socks existed, and that by wearing them (instead of the cheap cotton throw-aways that I typically wear) not only would my feet become warm, but my entire body would feel warmer. What surprised me about them, was that even though they were wool... they didn't itch like my dad's old socks (thank you merino wool!). Not only that, they provided more cushion than my dad's socks ever did and they didn't bulk up in my shoes. Since then, I've tried several of the Wigwam socks and my feet have been kept in heavenly warmth.
My current favorite pair of Wigwams are the Merino/Silk Hikers, extra-soft, extra-thick, and extra-extra-warm!
